HDFC Ergo general insurance is a joint venture between HDFC Limited, India’s premier Housing finance institution and ERGO international AG, the primary entity of Munich Re group. Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd (HDFC) owns around 51% of the stake being the major stakeholder and Ergo International AG holds around 49% in the joint venture. HDFC Ergo received the general insurance license in the year 2002 from the INsurance regulatory and development authority of India and started the operations in the same year in India with headquarters in Mumbai.

The plan offers protection against 15 named critical illnesses mentioned in the policy. In case of diagnosis with any of the mentioned critical illnesses the insured would get a lump sum amount. The plan can be purchased for 2 or 3 years. No pre-policy medical checkup is required up to the age of 45 years. The policy can be renewed lifelong.
