Glow This Summer: 7 Habits Your Skin Will Thank You For

Clean-clean-clean:
Clean your skin every morning, evening, and night before bed. Clean after you sweat, swim, or exercise. This simple step helps clear dust, sweat, and dead cells from your face. Accumulated dirt is the reason behind many skin conditions, like acne or eczema. However, please don’t overdo it and avoid using harsh chemicals. Use mild face wash, cleansing milk, water-based gels, etc., as per your skin type.
Hydrate:
Washing can disrupt the skin’s natural acidic pH balance, leading to dryness. To prevent this, apply moisturizer, which is crucial for restoring moisture and balancing the skin’s natural pH.
Tips:
- You can also try applying Toner and Serum in addition to moisturizer.
- Toner helps to restore pH balance.
- Serums can target specific skin conditions like acne, wrinkles etc. It also helps improve skin texture.
- Aloe vera gel is generally safe for all skin types. It is helpful for irritated and sunburnt skin. It also helps in skin conditions like acne and eczema.
Protection from sun damage:
It is crucial to protect the skin from the sun, as photoaging, also called sun damage, causes wrinkles, lines, brown spots, dry skin, and skin cancer. To prevent the same, use broad-spectrum sunscreen (UVA, UVB) between 30-50 SPF. Sunscreen must be applied every two hours (especially if exposed to sunlight). It also needs to be reapplied after sweating (exercise) or swimming. Apply sunscreen even if you are staying indoors. It will help protect you from blue light emitting from gadgets (laptop-mobile).
Tips:
- If you feel excessively hot after applying sunscreen, try using a thin-textured or water-based sunscreen.
- Antiperspirant powder helps manage excessive sweating after applying sunscreen.
- Use other means to protect your body, such as a hat/cap, sunglasses, and protective clothing like a scarf and tops with long sleeves.
Hydrate during the day:
Hydrating during the day is mandatory, especially in summer. Consume drinks like coconut water, lemon water, aam panna, and buttermilk to cool down your body faster. However, consider the sugar load from fruit juices like watermelon and mango. Excess sugar is harmful to your body, especially your skin.
Tips
- Use face mist with natural ingredients like glycerin, vitamin E, aloe vera, hyaluronic acid, rose water, etc.
- Avoid using deodorants.
Evening care:
Caring for your skin in the evening helps it heal faster. Remove makeup or sunscreen with gentle makeup remover. If you have heavy makeup, double cleanse. Hydrate the skin with moisturizer. Try a natural cooling mask, such as cold milk, honey, yoghurt, aloe vera gel, cucumber juice, or potato juice (to reduce dark spots).
Tips:
- Exfoliate skin with a gentle scrub twice a week.
- Use natural turmeric and besan scrub to reduce tan and glowing skin.
- Ice facial will help reduce puffy eyes, acne, sunburn, etc. It will also help prevent wrinkles.
Night care:
Our skin constantly repairs itself, but the repair and rejuvenation process is significantly enhanced at night, making it crucial to get a good night’s sleep. Follow a disciplined routine to sleep well. Showering with warm water, changing into loose cotton wear, and drinking chamomile tea will help you sleep faster. Avoid using gadgets or any means that can activate your brain.
Tips:
- Eye cream, lip balm, and night cream according to your skin type will help drastically improve your skin.
- Work on your stress to sleep better. Journaling, meditation, taking vacations, following your passion, etc., will help.
- Laugh often. It is like a tonic which helps repair the body faster.
Prevent skin damage:
Smoking, alcohol, toxins from unknown products, etc., can damage your skin. It is wise to learn to read labels and buy certified products only, especially from known brands. Detoxification will help remove toxins faster from your body. Add a massage session or sauna/steam to your lifestyle. Drinking enough water and exercising will also help detoxification.
Tips:
- Believe everything is made of chemicals.
- Try to use minimal cosmetics. Avoid unknown brands
- Question when results are too good to be true.
Following a consistent skin routine is crucial for healthy skin. However, know the power of lifestyle changes. Taking care of gut health by consuming a healthy diet, exercising regularly, and sleeping well will show immense results.
